China has been the world's largest machine tool consumer and importer for five successive years. According to the country reports of Gardner Survey, Chinese consumption of new manufacturing equipment continues to amaze: In 2004 she purchased and installed $9.3-billion in machine tools. That grew to $10.8-billion in 2005 consumption, and in 2006 gained another 20% to nearly $13-billion. Chinese consumption, as a percentage of total estimated world production of $59.5-billion, amounts to 22%. So, again, more than one out of every five machines produced in the world ends up in China. |

Shanghai is the industrial, financial, and commercial center of China. The Yangtze River Delta region, covering Jiangsu, Anhui and Zhejiang provinces and the City of Shanghai, is accounting for roughly 30 percent of China’s total GDP. The economy of this region, known as East China, is roughly equivalent to that of the Philippines. |
