Chinese Machine Tool Show Sets 2007 Dates

The world’s largest machine tool importing and consuming country for the past four years has been China, site of the Eastpo trade fair for advanced CNC machine tools and systems. Eastpo 2007, the next Shanghai International Machine Tool Fair, is scheduled for July 25–28, 2007, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

China’s spending on machine tools is expected to reach US$12 billion in 2006. In 2005, the figure was $10.9 billion. Advanced computer numerically controlled machines were the core of the Chinese market last year.

Eastpo is organized by Eastpo Exhibition (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., which notes that international machine tool manufacturers are increasingly expanding their business into China. When the organization promoted its show at EMO 2005 Hannover last fall, it found that 30% of exhibitors there planned to do that within five years.

“They are happy to know that there is an Eastpo 2007 fair in Shanghai,” says Eric Chung, president of Eastpo International Expo Corp., which, along with China National Machine Tool Corp., is a sponsor of Eastpo. “We also had successful conversations with industrial associations like AMT, MTA, VDW, JMAA, KOMMA, FADMA, TMDIA, and TAMI,” he adds, which will contribute to making Eastpo 2007 the largest international machine tool fair in Shanghai.

Eastpo 2005 brought together some 640 companies—15% from overseas—who occupied an exhibition area greater than 46,000 m². Foreign companies came from 26 countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, South Korea, Japan, and the United States. That exposition attracted a total of 52,322 trade professionals (3,616 foreign) over its four days.
